For L’Etoile, I created an period umbrella with LEDs built inside the cover for the character Lazuli. I chose an existing wooden-framed umbrella, removed the synthetic cover, sewed a new cover using a cotton fabric that would match the character’s costume, and built in a simple LED circuit that would light up once the character “found his star.”
I first sewed a cover from muslin before using the real fabric.
After sewing the fabric, some alterations had to be made to the top portion near the center rod.
The LEDs were wired with one or two LEDs in series with a corresponding resistor along each spoke, with each spoke then wired in parallel to a 9 Volt battery and simple toggle switch.
Lazuli’s priceless expression as he emerges from the lake.
